Justin Verlander has been diagnosed with a mild lat strain. He will be shut down for the immediate future and then reassessed. (Chandler Rome on Twitter)

Fantasy Impact:

Overall, the diagnosis is positive, and Verlander hasn't even yet been ruled out for Opening Day. Still, the 37-year-old has now already battled a groin injury and a lat strain in the spring, which only heightens the injury risk for the veteran. There's no reason to avoid Verlander in fantasy yet, but dropping him behind Max Scherzer and Walker Buehler on your draft boards is prudent.
