Griffin Canning (elbow): Angels ‘very hopeful’ he will pitch by Opening Day

Canning would have been unlikely to pitch for the original Opening Day, but with the delay to the season, he should be all systems go by then. He was diagnosed with an “chronic changes” to the UCL in his right elbow in February. Canning threw 55 pitches of live batting practice last month. He owned a 4.58 ERA and a 96:30 K:BB across 90 1/3 innings in 2019. Canning is currently 119th overall among all pitchers in the latest expert consensus rankings.
