Quintana underwent thumb surgery on Thursday and is expected to be sidelined at least two weeks. His injury opens up an opportunity in the Cubs' rotation. Yu Darvish, Jon Lester, Kyle Hendicks and Tyler Chatwood occupy the top four spots. Colin Rea, Alec Mills and Alzolay and will compete for the fifth spot in the rotation. Alzolay owned a (1-1) record with a 7.38 ERA, 1.78 WHIP and a 13:9 K:BB across 12 1/3 innings for the Cubs in 2019.
