Ian Kennedy gave up one run while striking out two over one inning of relief as the Tigers took down the Royals 5-4 on Wednesday.
Kennedy came in with the game tied at four before giving up a solo shot to JaCoby Jones, which was enough to get saddled with the loss. He was slated to be the Royals' closer to start the year but he's only pitched three innings over two appearances, neither of which were a save/hold situation. The Royals seem time taking a closer-by-committee approach early on with Greg Holland notching the team's only save. There won't be many save opportunities to begin with but this whole situation dampens Kennedy's value.
