Ken Giles diagnosed with 'mild strain,' could pitch again 'soon'

by Mike Maher | Braves Correspondent | Fri, Jul 31st 12:10pm EDT

Blue Jays closer Ken Giles got some encouraging news on Friday when he was diagnosed with a mild strain of the flexor mass in his right forearm, according to a report from Sportsnet.ca's Andrew Zwelling on Twitter. Zwelling adds that Toronto GM Ross Atkins is "Very optimistic that we'll see him pitching again soon." (Andrew Zwelling on Twitter)

Fantasy Impact:

Giles received a PRP injection on Thursday and will remain shut down for at least the next two weeks, so "soon" here does not mean next week. This news means that Giles is likely to return this season, but we are still probably at least three or four weeks away from seeing him in a major league game. Anthony Bass is expected to remain the closer during Giles's absence.
