Paul Goldschmidt hits first HR of spring training

by Tony Pontecorvo | Cardinals Correspondent | Sun, Mar 29th 3:07am EDT

Paul Goldschmidt hit his first home run of the spring, a two-run shot off Kansas City's Danny Duffy. Goldschmidt has had subpar numbers this spring, hitting .214 with a .357 slugging pct. His 2014 ended prematurely on August 1 due to a fractured left hand. (Nick Piecoro)

Fantasy Impact:

Although Goldschmidt and Manager Chip Hale say they're unconcerned by the poor spring stats, the home run helps ease the concerns of those who are drafting him in the first round of drafts (FantasyPros ECR: #5). If his hand is 100% healed - which by all accounts, it is - he is one of the safest bets in the game. The 27-year-old also has the upside for .300/30/100 RBI with 100 runs and 10 stolen bases.
