Adam Wainwright throws complete game in Game One win Wednesday

by Lucas Babits-Feinerman | Wed, Sep 16th 10:07pm EDT

Adam Wainwright was superb for the Cardinals on Wednesday afternoon tossing seven innings, striking out nine, and allowing two earned runs on four hits and one walk. The two runs came in the first inning when Wainwright surrendered a two run Keston Hiura home run. The Cardinals move to 22-22 with the victory.

Fantasy Impact:

Wainwright has been great for the Cardinals this season posting a 2.87 ERA in 53 1/3 innings pitched. Fantasy owners can stick with Wainwright for another plus match up, against the Royals, his next start. Owners preparing for next season might want to temper their expectations of Wainwright as his 4.23 xFIP indicates he may be getting lucky with run prevention. His career .298 BABIP is .070 points higher than his .228 mark this season, in part due to the excellent Cardinals defense behind him.
