Carlos Martinez struggles in Game One no-decision Friday

by Lucas Babits-Feinerman | Sat, Sep 19th 1:05am EDT

Carlos Martinez allowed five runs, one earned, on three hits and four walks while striking out one over three and two thirds innings on Friday. Martinez's defense truly let him down on Friday afternoon and the right hander had to work very hard to compensate. He threw 77 pitches, 41 of them for strikes, and left with a 6-5 lead. The Cardinals are 23-24 with the win.

Fantasy Impact:

Martinez has an 8.40 ERA in 15 innings pitched this season. Martinez's next and likely final start of the season is scheduled for Wednesday against Kansas City and Danny Duffy. Martinez is a quality pitcher when he's on his A-game but we simply haven't seen that pitcher yet this season. Owners desperate for wins or strikeouts can consider starting him next time out at the possible expense of their ratios.
