Adam Wainwright gets the loss Monday, moves to 5-2 on the season

by Lucas Babits-Feinerman | Mon, Sep 21st 11:45pm EDT

Adam Wainwright allowed three earned runs on six hits and two walks with seven strike outs in five and two thirds innings pitched on Monday. He threw 91 pitches, 58 of them for strikes, and ran into trouble in the sixth inning when he allowed a bases loaded single to Maikel Franco that scored two runs for the Royals. The Cardinals lost the game 4-1 and fell to 26-25 on the season. They are in a virtual tie for Second Place in the NL Central with the Cincinnati Reds, having played four fewer games than the Reds this season.

Fantasy Impact:

Wainwright pitched well, without much run support on Monday, but ran out of gas in the sixth inning. Wainwright has a 3.05 ERA in 59 innings pitched this season. His 4.10 xFIP and .244 BABIP (compared to .298 career average) indicate potential for negative regression for Wainwright's ERA. Wainwright's next start is scheduled for Saturday against Brandon Woodruff and the Milwaukee Brewers.
