Austin Gomber picks up first win of the season Tuesday

by Lucas Babits-Feinerman | Rockies Correspondent | Wed, Sep 23rd 1:14am EDT

Austin Gomber allowed four hits, zero walks, and zero runs, striking out three over six innings to move to 1-1 on the season as the Cardinals topped the Royals 5-0 on Tuesday. Gomber threw 76 pitches, 52 of them for strikes, in his longest outing of the season. The Cardinals improved to 27-25 on the season and command a one game lead over the Brewers and Reds for Second Place in the NL Central.

Fantasy Impact:

Gomber has been working out of the bullpen for most of the season. He has a 1.80 ERA over 25 innings pitched but his 4.64 xFIP indicates potential negative regression for his ERA. He is scheduled to face Brett Anderson on Sunday for his final start of the season. Both the Brewers and Cardinals will have a lot to play for in that game so it's likely that he will be on a short leash. He is a middle of the road streaming option in standard 12-team redraft leagues.
