Daniel Bard made a long relief appearance on Thursday against the Giants, tossing 2 2/3 innings to earn the win as the Rockies won in 11 innings.
Bard has been one of the best stories in baseball this year, posting a 3.65 ERA with 27 strikeouts in 24 2/3 innings pitched. The 35-year-old once seemed like a lost cause as he struggled mightily with control and was close to being out of baseball altogether. The perseverance he showed to get back to the big leagues can't be overstated. Bard has even operated as the Rockies' closer at times this season, saving six games so far.
