Tyler O'Neill steals a base in Cardinals win Sunday

by Lucas Babits-Feinerman | Red Sox Correspondent | Mon, Sep 28th 2:41pm EDT

Tyler O'Neill stole his third base of the season on Sunday. He went 0-2 with one walk and one run scored. The Cardinals beat the Brewers 5-2 and clinched a post season birth with the win.

Fantasy Impact:

O'Neill finishes the season worth 0.5 WAR while batting .173 with seven home runs, three stolen bases, 20 runs and 19 RBI. O'Neill was given a shot to hit clean-up for the Cardinals when they restarted their season after their COVID-19 outbreak but slumped and ultimately ended up in the bottom third of the line-up. He has enormous power potential but hasn't been able to break through at the major league level. O'Neill's 2020 does have some encouraging signs - he was able to reduce his strikeout rate by almost 25% from 2019 and increase his walk rate by almost 50% from 2019 and his .189 BABIP is more than .100 points lower than his .305 career average meaning his poor batting average could be the result of bad luck. He can be considered a sleeper for the 2021 season.
