Mike Fiers starts Game 3 but only lasts 1 2/3 innings on Thursday

by Jon Mathisen | Thu, Oct 1st 8:22pm EDT

Mike Fiers got the start in Game 3 on Thursday and allowed one run on five hits with two strikeouts and one walk over just 1 2/3 innings as the A's beat the White Sox to advance to the ALDS.

Fantasy Impact:

Fiers served more as an opener in this one as Oakland used eight pitchers to secure their first playoff series win since 2006. The A's would have preferred in the veteran could have lasted longer but he was pretty inefficient (39 pitches) and the White Sox were all over him from the get go. Fiers was fortunate that the the only run he gave up was an absolute bomb off the bat of Luis Robert, which was the longest home run at the Oakland Coliseum since the stat cast era began. All's well that ends well, though, as the A's will face division-rival Houston in the ALDS on Monday.
