The Blue Jays are reportedly finalizing a deal with free agent RHP Kirby Yates. (Ken Rosenthal on Twitter )

Yates will be at the Toronto’s training site on Tuesday and could finalize a deal, per Ken Rosenthal of the Athletic. He underwent surgery to remove bone chips from his right elbow in August. The 34-year-old reliever made only six appearances in 2020. Yates will compete for the Blue Jays closer role and should be in the mix for save opportunities in 2021. Before an injury-filled 2020 campaign, Yates posted a 1.19 ERA, 0.89 WHIP and converted 41-of-44 saves in 2019 for the Padres.
