Torkelson is viewed as a first baseman long term, but the Tigers announced him as a third baseman when they drafted him. He spent the summer working on his defense at the alternate training site, but it's his bat that has him ranked as a consensus top-10 prospect in baseball. Torkelson broke Barry Bonds' Arizona State freshman home run record and possesses plus hit and power tools.
