Jeffrey Springs designated for assignment

The Red Sox announced that they have designated Jeffrey Springs for assignment. The left-handed reliever loses his 40-man roster spot to Hirokazu Sawamura, who was officially signed on Tuesday. (Boston Red Sox on Twitter)

Fantasy Impact:

Springs, 25, is a former 30th-round pick of the Texas Rangers. He was dealt to Boston ahead of the 2020 season and made 16 appearances in his first campaign with the Red Sox. Over 20.1 innings, he posted a 7.08 ERA with 28 strikeouts and seven walks. Still, he performed better than the numbers suggest, so the Red Sox are presumably hopeful that he clears waivers and remains with the organization.
