Anthony Bass, who recently signed a two-year, $5 million deal with the Marlins, was brought up "often in discussing the closer role" by Marlins manager Don Mattingly, per Craig Mish of SportsGrid. (Craig Mish on Twitter)
Mish stated that Mattingly, after talking up Bass, "then went to Yimi Garcia. Mentioned late(r) options of Dylan Floro & Richard Bleier." It's looking like Bass is the odds on favorite to open the year as the Marlins' closer. He posted a 3.51 ERA, 1.01 WHIP, and 21:9 K/BB ratio over 25 2/3 innings while recording three saves and seven holds for the Jays in 2020.
