The Blue Jays have a lot of starting pitching depth so it makes sense that Thornton will be prepared for both a spot in the rotation and a relief role. The 27-year-old underwent surgery back in September to remove loose bodies from his right elbow after pitching just 5 2/3 innings during the shortened 2020 season.
