Washington Nationals hitting coach Kevin Long said that it would be "huge" if outfielder Victor Robles could seize the leadoff spot this season. He also noted that Spring Training is important to the center fielder to solidify himself at the top of the order.
It looks like Robles will be given every opportunity to earn the leadoff spot this spring. The 23-year-old is coming off a lackluster 2020 in which he slashed .220/.293/.315 with three home runs, 15 RBI, and four stolen bases. This was after he packed on extra muscle last offseason to try and increase his power. It would be a major boost to his fantasy value if he were to grab the leadoff spot but that's a big if. Robles would need to improve his on-base skills first and foremost but it sounds like he'll be given a chance to do that this spring.
