Cincinnati Reds RHP Lucas Sims, who's been dealing with elbow soreness since the outset of camp, is throwing a live BP on Wednesday along with Amir Garrett, who's been dealing with a forearm issue. (C. Trent Rosecrans on Twitter)
Despite dealing with the elbow tightness, Sims has not been completely shut down this spring. He's been throwing in short box drills and has expressed optimism that he'll be ready for Opening Day. He was a dark horse candidate to win the closer role in Cincinnati after putting up a solid 2.45 ERA, 0.94 WHIP, and 34:11 K/BB ratio over 25 2/3 innings last season. Amir Garrett, who is the favorite to win the closer job, threw a BP on Wednesday as well. It's worth keeping an eye on the status of both hurlers heading into this weekend. If they can both see some Cactus League action in the coming days then they should be good for Opening Day.
