Fantasy Impact:

The Royals won't need a fifth starter for the beginning of the season, and Bubic has struggled to an 8.59 ERA in 7 1/3 innings in spring training. Royals manager Mike Matheny noted that the team probably could have waited until the last day of spring training to make this move, but they are running out of extended innings for starters that they are going to need to begin the season. Sending Bubic to minor league camp allows him to work on his command and other things the team has identified as weaknesses. Bubic pitched to a 4.32 ERA in 2020 but walked 22 batters in 50 innings. He had never pitched above High-A before 2020 and was still just 22 years old, so that performance is actually pretty encouraging for a pitcher making such a big jump. Bubic is a great target later in dynasty drafts but is a risky proposition in 2021 redraft leagues.
