Manny Machado went 1-4 with a single, a walk, and a strikeout in the Padres' win over the Pirates on Monday. Machado also scored two runs in the contest.

Machado is a hard hitting machine so far this year, as he now ranks in the 99th percentile in average exit velocity and hard hit rate among major leaguers. Machado had two more hard hit events on Monday that only resulted in one hit. These are promising signs that point to Machado's slow statistical start being more related to bad luck than actual slumping. Machado will have three more opportunities to hit against a subpar Pirates pitching staff this week, so fantasy managers should be starting him over the next few days.
