Joe Musgrove gives up 1 earned over 4 innings in return to Pittsburgh

Joe Musgrove gave up 1 earned run in 4 innings pitched in the Padres' loss to the Pirates on Wednesday. Musgrove struck out 6 and walked 2 in the outing.

Fantasy Impact:

There is no doubt that following up a no hitter is no easy task. That's what Musgrove attempted to do on Wednesday, as he returned to Pittsburgh for the first time since being traded to the Padres in the offseason. Musgrove struggled with his command for the first time this season, giving up 2 walks in his 4 innings of work. Musgrove's command issues led to a high pitch count, which resulted in him being pulled after just 4 innings of work. It's possible manager Jayce Tingler was monitoring Musgrove's work load after throwing 112 pitches in the no-hit effort last week. Despite Musgrove's short outing, he is still off to a fast start this season. Musgrove is walking less batters in 2021 than he has in the past and it seems to be paying off, considering his strikeout to walk ratio is currently the best of his career. His command on Wednesday was a bit of a step back, but fantasy managers should still be starting him in his next matchup against the Brewers.
