Mark Melancon gave up 1 earned run in 2 innings pitched in the Padres' extra-innings loss to the Dodgers on Friday. Melancon struck out 1 in the outing and gave up 2 hits.

Melancon had made 6 appearances in 2021 without giving up a run. Melancon gave up the go-ahead run in the top of the 9th on a Justin Turner single on Friday. The Padres tied the game in the bottom half of the 9th, and Melancon came back out in the top of the 10th and retired the side in order. Melancon gave up hits to Mookie Betts and Justin Turner in the 9th, so it's unlikely manager Jayce Tingler will lose faith in his closer considering two of the best hitters in baseball were the ones who got to Melancon.
