Eric Hosmer goes 2-4 on Saturday

Eric Hosmer went 2-4 with two singles and a strikeout in the Padres' loss to the Dodgers on Saturday.

Fantasy Impact:

Hosmer's single off Scott Alexander in the 8th inning was the hardest hit ball of the game at 109 MPH. Hosmer's hard hit ball rate and average exit velocity are actually down this year compared to his past few seasons. That being said, Hosmer has improved his walk and strikeout rates. This could mean two things for Hosmer: a) it could mean more hard hit balls are coming from Hosmer, or b) it could mean that his overall exit velocity numbers are beginning to drop due to age or other factors. It's tough to tell which option is the correct explanation this early in the season, but as long as Hosmer keeps his walk rate and strikeout rates where they are, he'll continue to be a valuable starting first baseman in most fantasy leagues.
