Victor Caratini goes 1-3 on Tuesday

Victor Caratini went 1-3 with a single and a strikeout in the Padres' loss to the Diamondbacks on Tuesday.

Fantasy Impact:

The bad news for Caratini is that he's hitting just .235 at the plate this year. The good news for Caratini is that he's hitting the ball hard more consistently than he was last year. Austin Nola is getting close to a return, so Caratini's playing time is likely to decrease soon. At the beginning of the year there were some who thought that Luis Campusano could overtake Caratini for the backup role, but considering the Padres are in 'win now' mode and Campusano has struggled mightily to begin the year, Caratini should still be the backup catcher when Nola returns. That being said, Nola is coming off of a fantastic 2020, so if he's 100% healthy the catcher split could weigh heavily against Caratini. Without regular playing time, Caratini's bat simply doesn't provide enough value to be rostered in most leagues.
