Adam Wainwright struggles on Monday but still picks up second win

by Lucas Spence | Tue, May 4th 12:35am EDT

Fresh off being activated from the COVID-19 list due to precautionary reasons, Adam Wainwright was ineffective on Monday, giving up seven hits, five earned runs, and three walks across 5 2/3 innings while striking out five. Luckily, the Cardinals offense provided him ample run support, allowing Wainwright to pick up his second win of the season.

Fantasy Impact:

The 39-year-old right hander was coming off a complete game in his prior outing and a 10-strikeout performance in the game before that. Nonetheless, he simply wasn't sharp tonight but still managed to pick up his second win of the season. Wainwright now owns a 4.72 ERA and 1.34 WHIP across 34 1/3 innings with an impressive 37 K's this season. He'll have another start this weekend at home against Colorado.
