Corbin Burnes sets historic record in tough loss Thursday

by Connor Rooney | Orioles Correspondent | Thu, May 13th 5:55pm EDT

Corbin Burnes (2-3) took the tough-luck loss Thursday against the Cardinals, allowing one run on five hits and one walk across five innings. He struck out nine.

Fantasy Impact:

Burnes made history on Thursday, setting a record for most strikeouts (58) before issuing a walk to begin a season. He walked Tommy Edman in the fifth to end the streak. In the first inning, he allowed three hits and a run to score; afterwards, he settled in beautifully. The Brewers' offense was totally stymied by Jack Flaherty and the Cardinals' bullpen, so Burnes was tagged with the loss. Burnes owns a pristine 1.57 ERA and 0.64 WHIP across 34.1 innings this season, and has registered an other-worldly 58:1 K:BB. He lines up to take the mound early next week in Kansas City.
