Ian Kennedy hammered in return to rotation

by LaShawn Encarnacion | Sun, Apr 26th 11:12am EDT

Ian Kennedy returned to the rotation thinking he was ready to go. Well after 4 1/3 innings and an 11-8 loss to the Dodgers on Saturday night, Kennedy may need some bullpen work before getting into the regular rotation. He gave up 8 runs and three home-runs. His location and his rhythm just seemed off as the Dodgers hitters took advantage in a big way. Kennedy commented after looking over the video of his outing. "I didn't execute a lot of my pitches. And when I started falling behind [in the count], the pitches I tried to locate, I didn't locate them as well," Kennedy said. In the game tape Kennedy saw his upper-body was off which in turn was messing up with his throwing mechanics, an old behavior of his. "It's one of those things I've done in the past, I'm trying to get away from. Last year, it was an inning or two or a pitch here and there. I've got it pretty much figured out what it was," Kennedy said.

Fantasy Impact:

Ian Kennedy remains a high risk/high reward type of pitcher for all you fantasy owners out there. If you have him, be weary and may be better to bench him for awhile. If he is on your waiver-wires, think twice about bringing him onto your every day rosters. If you have an empty bench slot, then maybe worth picking up. 8 runs was the most Kennedy's has given up since he gave up 10 against the Cardinals in June of 2013. So this is NOT a normal trend for Kennedy.
