Carlos Martinez pitches well in loss on Sunday Night Baseball

by Lucas Spence | Sun, Jun 13th 11:55pm EDT

Carlos Martinez was a tough-luck loser on Sunday night against the Cubs, pitching seven strong innings and allowing two unearned runs while scattering four hits and a walk. Martinez added six strikeouts while falling to 3-7 on the season.

Fantasy Impact:

Having been absolutely shelled in his prior two outings (15 ER in 4 2/3 innings), Martinez pitched much better on Sunday night but was let down by his defense (two errors) and his offense (who got shutout). Both runs that scored in the third inning were unearned due to a two-out error by Paul DeJong on a ground ball into the shift. Martinez (5.54 ERA) will try to get back into the win column next weekend in a tough matchup against the Braves.
