Johan Oviedo dazzles over seven scoreless innings on Wednesday

by Lucas Spence | Pirates Correspondent | Wed, Jun 16th 5:29pm EDT

Cardinals starter Johan Oviedo had by far his best start of the season on Wednesday, tossing seven shutout innings against Miami while yielding only six hits (all singles) and striking out four in a no-decision.

Fantasy Impact:

The 23-year-old right-hander had not pitched more than five innings in any start this season but was able to get through seven today by pounding the strike zone (87 pitches, 63 strikes). Granted it was against a weak Marlins lineup that was without Starling Marte, Jesus Aguilar, and Corey Dickerson, but it was still a nice step forward regardless for Oviedo (4.58 ERA) who will have another favorable matchup against the Tigers next week.
