Homer Bailey to undergo Tommy John surgery

by Chris Zolli | Fri, May 1st 3:07pm EDT

Reds starter Homer Bailey will undergo Tommy John surgery and miss the remainder of the 2015 season. Bailey was put on the 60-day DL on April 26 with right elbow problems but surgery was necessary for the issue. Bailey had a 5.56 ERA in 11 1/3 innings this season. (MLB on Twitter)

Fantasy Impact:

Bailey was struggling in the early part of the season, prompting owners to think that he was regressing, and this injury could have been the reason why he was so poor this season. Either way, Bailey profiles as more of a middle of the rotation pitcher than an SP1 or SP2 and smart owners could replace him. Although he received a $100 million extension from the Reds, Bailey has a career 4.19 ERA, 1.31 WHIP, and 7.4 K/9. Owners should have cut Bailey when he went on the 60 day disabled list and he is not rosterable in dynasty formats as well.
