Fantasy Impact:

In an Instagram post, Mercedes wrote that he is "walking away from baseball for a while ... it's over." The energetic slugger burst onto the scene as a standout earlier this season, slashing .415/.455/.659 with five homers and 16 RBI in the month of April. Things went downhill after that, though. He hit just two homers in May, then slashed .159/.221/.190 with no homers in the month of June. On July 2nd, he was sent to Triple-A Charlotte, where he went 17-for-57 with four home runs. The 28-year-old retires with an AL Player of the Month award under his belt from this past April.
