Max Scherzer trade talks continuing to 'intensify'

With the MLB trade deadline less than 54 hours away, it appears the Nationals are making progress in terms of finding a suitor for ace Max Scherzer. Jon Morosi of MLB.com reports that "trade talks have continued to intensify, and those close to the conversations believe a deal could be reached by late tonight." (Jon Morosi on Twitter)

Fantasy Impact:

This is huge news and would immediately change the scope of MLB and its playoff race. Morosi listed the Giants, Dodgers, and Padres as the frontrunners in the sweepstakes, which aligns with Scherzer's desire to play out west. It's worth noting that the veteran starter does have a no-trade clause, giving him full control over where he ends up. It's quite possible that Scherzer, who is scheduled to start for Washington on Thursday, has thrown his last pitch in a Nationals uniform. The 37-year-old is 7-4 with a 2.83 ERA, 0.89 WHIP, and .183 OBA plus 25 walks and 142 strikeouts through 18 starts this season.
