RHP Merrill Kelly took the loss on Saturday when he allowed four runs--three earned--on eight hits with two walks and six strikeouts over 6 1/3 innings in the D-Backs' 8-3 loss to the Dodgers.
The Dodgers hit Kelly around pretty hard in this one as he allowed 10 base runners over his six-plus innings. He gave up three runs in the first inning but one didn't count due to a Kole Calhoun throwing error. After that, he had a few close calls but didn't surrender another run until the seventh after Stefan Crichton allowed an inherited runner to score. Due to the unearned run on his tally, he ended up with a quality start but still took the loss. Kelly will carry a 7-8 record, 4.38 ERA, 1.23 WHIP, and 111:30 K/BB ratio over 129 1/3 innings (22 starts). He gets the Giants at home in his next start.
