J.A. Happ gives up two runs in five innings in debut with Cardinals

by Lucas Spence | Thu, Aug 5th 8:37am EDT

Newly-acquired J.A. Happ went five innings in a no-decision against the Braves on Wednesday. He allowed five hits, two runs, and a walk while striking out four.

Fantasy Impact:

Happ permitted an RBI double to Guillermo Heredia and a solo home run to Jorge Soler but otherwise was effective in his first start with his new club. Despite the solid outing, keep in mind that Happ posted a 6.77 ERA and 1.59 WHIP in 19 starts with the Twins this season and remains a risky fantasy bet for the remainder of the year. With that said, the pitching environment in the National League is usually friendlier than the American League, and Happ has an attractive matchup on tap next week at Pittsburgh. Proceed with caution, but the 38-year-old is an intriguing streaming option for that matchup.
