Alex Cobb could need season ending surgery

by Jamison Malasko | Giants Correspondent | Fri, May 8th 8:52am EDT

Tampa Bay Rays right-hander Alex Cobb could be headed for season-ending elbow ligament replacement surgery as an MRI showed a ligament tear. Cobb received a platelet-rich-plasma injection in an attempt to avoid surgery and will now rest a week before making a decision. "I'm still going back and forth on what I want to do," Cobb said before Thursday night's game against Texas. "You try some options that are available. You always try to avoid surgery." (espn.com)

Fantasy Impact:

This is a huge blow for the Rays as it was starting to look like Cobb was getting close to returning. If surgery is needed Cobb would be out of action 12-16 months. He went 10-9 with a 2.87 ERA in 27 starts last season.
