Jimmy Rollins manages two hits in Dodgers' big night

by Eric Westlund | Wed, May 13th 2:25pm EDT

Jimmy Rollins batted 2-for-6 and scored two runs as the Dodgers beat the Marlins 11-1 on Tuesday. He is still batting just .174 / .257 / .298 on the year.

Fantasy Impact:

Rollins's batting average should rebound some, but ZiPS and Steamer still see only around .230 for the rest of the season. Rollins owners should use Tuesday's two-hit slump-breaker to try to trade him for anything of value, as he appears in for a very disappointing season. He has been caught stealing on three of six attempts, and his declining speed should have owners expecting a 12-15 steal season at best, not the 20 some forecasted entering the year. To make matters worse, the Dodgers may soon begin to phase Rollins out on both offense and defense. He has already ceded the lead-off spot to Joc Pederson and will relinquish #2 once Yasiel Puig returns, if not sooner. On defense, the former Gold Glover has graded out no better this year than utility man Justin Turner by FanGraphs's Ultimate Zone Rating, and Turner will continue to earn spot starts in place of Rollins as the year continues. Finally, the Dodgers have arguably the best shortstop prospect in baseball in Corey Seager knocking down the door in Triple-A.
