Max Scherzer finalizing three-year, $130 million deal with Mets, per Heyman

Jon Heyman of MLB Network reports the Mets are finalizing a three-year, $130 million contract with free agent RHP Max Scherzer. (Jon Heyman on Twitter)

Fantasy Impact:

This blows the AAV record out of the water, which was previously held by Gerrit Cole at $36 million. Scherzer will now average roughly $43 million over the next few seasons as he teams up with Jacob deGrom to form arguably the scariest 1-2 punch in recent memory. Scherzer was fantastic in 2021, showing little sign of imminent decline. Among National League starters he ranked second in ERA, fourth in fWAR, second in K% and K-BB%, third in BB%, and fourth in FIP and xFIP. He'll be an obvious SP1 in 2022 fantasy drafts.
