Adbert Alzolay to start season on IL

Cubs GM Jed Hoyer said today that SP Adbert Alzolay will open the season on the IL due to shoulder tightness. Hoyer explained that is "not a short stint." (Gordon Wittenmyer on Twitter)
Fantasy Impact:
This is not good news at all for the 27-year old Cubs pitcher. It's unclear exactly when he will be back on the mound, but Hoyer's comments don't sound encouraging. Alzolay has the stuff and potential to break out this season but is not off to a good start. He went 5-13 with a 4.58 ERA and 128 Ks in 125.2 innings in 2021. This could open up a spot for RHP Keegan Thompson in the rotation to start the season.
