Sandy Alcantara earns the win with strong start against Nationals Tuesday

Sandy Alcantara allowed one run on six hits and three walks over six innings on Tuesday against the Nationals. He struck out five and earned the win, moving to 2-0.

Fantasy Impact:

Alcantara wasn't particularly sharp on Tuesday despite keeping the Nationals from doing any damage. His command was off and he had just a 26% CSW rate. But he has yet to allow more than two earned runs in any start this year, and although his strikeout rate is lower than fantasy managers are used to seeing, it's hard to argue with his success. His HR rate (0.36/9) is due for some regression even though he typically excels in limiting long balls, and both his FIP and xFIP are at least a run and a half higher than his ERA. In other words, don't expect Alcantara's 1.78 ERA and 1.18 WHIP to hold all season. None of that should take away from the fact that he is a must-start option, including in his next outing against the Mariners.
