Sandy Alcantara tagged for five runs against Mariners on Sunday

by Dan Harris | Marlins Correspondent | Sun, May 1st 5:40pm EDT

Sandy Alcantara allowed five runs on six hits and four walks over 5 2/3 innings on Sunday against the Mariners. He struck out six and took the loss, falling to 2-1.

Fantasy Impact:

Alcantara's game had a very different feel to it until he had two outs in the sixth inning, after which he gave up a double, an intentional walk, and a home run to ruin his day. He threw 103 pitches, so there was an argument that he should have been taken out before that point, but nevertheless, Alcantara is responsible for his outing. He wasn't quite at his best on Sunday regardless, as he had just a 27% CSW rate and allowed six hard-hit balls, an uncharacteristically large amount of hard contact. This was really Alcantara's first sub-par outing, and other than the diminished strikeout rate, he's largely satisfied his fantasy managers. His FIP (4.18) and xFIP (4.06) suggest he's been a bit lucky, so managers will want to monitor his performances for signs of regression. He will take on the Padres in his next outing.
