Justin Upton signs major-league deal with Mariners

The Mariners signed Justin Upton to a major-league deal on Saturday.

Fantasy Impact:

Upton was released in spring training by the Angels, who still owe him $28 million. The Mariners will be responsible for only $550,000 of that, and Upton should be able to find regular at-bats now that Jarred Kelenic has been optioned to the minors. Upton has batted just .204 and .211 the last two seasons, though he still has power, as evidenced by his 26 home runs over 131 games during that span. He's worth a look in AL-only formats but likely not in mixed leagues.
