Mark Melancon picks up his ninth save in win Saturday

by Josh Thiessen | Sun, May 22nd 12:05am EDT

Arizona Diamondbacks RP Mark Melancon pitched the 10th inning on Saturday, striking out two, and allowing two hits for one earned run in the Diamondbacks' 7-6 win over the Cubs.

Fantasy Impact:

Melancon came in for the 10th inning after a late comeback by the Diamondbacks to tie the game and force extra innings, however when the relief pitcher came in he nearly blew another game as he allowed two runs which evaporated the three run lead. The Diamondbacks reliever has a ERA of 7.53 which is due to come down so long as he is able to put up more strong performances throughout the season. The main concern for managers is if the elite relief pitching of the 37 year olds career is gone, as he has already lost five games this season and nearly lost his sixth on Saturday, despite having a three run lead.
