Anthony Rizzo went 1-for-3 with a home run and two runs scored in New York’s 9-4 comeback victory against Oakland on Monday.
Rizzo reached the 20-homer mark for the 9th time in the last 10 seasons with one season being the COVID-shortened 2020 season. Rizzo’s 50 RBI are good for 10 in the Majors and 5th in the American League. Rizzo’s power numbers would be leading a lot of teams but his stellar season is somewhat overshadowed by Aaron Judge’s historic home run pace along with Rizzo’s ice cold May. Rizzo has nine dingers and 21 RBI is June but did take a 96 mph heater off his elbow Monday and was later replaced by Matt Carpenter. The situation is one to monitor prior to Tuesday’s game but the move was likely precautionary with New York up 9-5.
