Kevin Gausman logs quality start in return on Thursday

by Devon Bruce | Blue Jays Correspondent | Thu, Jul 14th 10:57pm EDT

Kevin Gausman pitched six innings, allowing two earned runs on seven hits and two walks while striking out six during Toronto's loss to Kansas City on Thursday.

Fantasy Impact:

Obviously, the big story here was that the Blue Jays lost to a Royals team that was missing 10 of their starters due to Canada's vaccination policy. That aside, Gausman looked relatively sharp in his return to the mound after being out since July 2, fortunately avoiding a trip to the injured list. He was holding the Royals scoreless until the fifth inning when he allowed an RBI single to Edward Olivares and then a home run to Bobby Witt Jr - just his third allowed on the season. The Blue Jays and fantasy managers alike are relieved to have Gausman back as he has an excellent 2.87 ERA and 1.29 WHIP with a 106:18 strikeout-to-walk ratio over 17 starts. He'll look to get back into the win column in a scheduled start against the Red Sox after the All-Star break on July 23.
