The move comes as somewhat of a surprise as Keller is by no means the worst performer in the Royals’ rotation. However, the demotion comes on the heels of one of arguably his worst start of the year, giving up eight runs in just three innings on Saturday against the Dodgers. It was also his second start surrendering eight runs in his last three. Keller is 6-13 on the season with 4.93 ERA, but is 6-3 with a 1.77 ERA when he’s registered a quality start and 0-10 with a 9.18 ERA when he hasn't. His 10.43 ERA in August may have sealed his fate of a move to the bullpen.
