Clay Holmes (back) placed on 15-day IL

by Luke Monaldo | Yankees Correspondent | Wed, Aug 17th 3:55pm EDT

Clay Holmes has been placed on the 15-day IL with a back issue as reported by YES Network’s Meredith Marakovitz. (Meredith Marakovitz on Twitter)

Fantasy Impact:

Holmes going on the IL was expected as manager Aaron Boone had alluded to the move after Tuesday night’s loss. Holmes has not pitched since blowing a save opportunity at Fenway Park on Friday night, a game in which Holmes said his back “locked up” on him. Holmes attempted to throw off a mound prior to Tuesday night’s game but his back was still bothering him. Holmes has been lights out for most of the year, but has blown his last three save opportunities dating back to July 31 with a 15.75 ERA across five appearances in that span. Aroldis Chapman will likely regain his old closer’s role while Holmes is sidelined.
