Max Scherzer earns win against Braves despite sub-par outing Wednesday

by Dan Harris | Rangers Correspondent | Wed, Aug 17th 11:36pm EDT

Max Scherzer allowed four runs on three hits and three walks over 6 1/3 innings on Wednesday against the Braves. He struck out eight and earned the win, moving to 8-2.

Fantasy Impact:

Scherzer wasn't at his best but wasn't nearly as bad as his final line suggests. Not only did he sit through a lengthy rain delay, but the bullpen allowed three of his inherited runners to score. Scherzer's velocity and whiff percentage (31%) were down a bit, and he allowed more than two earned runs for the first time in his last 11 starts. But considering that this is about as bad as it gets for Scherzer, fantasy managers should be thanking their lucky stars. He remains a top-flight, ace fantasy pitcher, and he'll take his 2.15 ERA and 0.93 WHIP into his next start against the Yankees.
