Justin Verlander has great playoff tune-up Wednesday

by Kendall Capps | Astros Correspondent | Thu, Sep 29th 1:40am EDT

Astros SP Justin Verlander was sharp once again Wednesday against the Diamondbacks. He struck out eight across seven innings, allowing just two runs (one earned) on six hits and a walk in a 5-2 loss.

Fantasy Impact:

Verlander did not factor in the decision as Will Smith allowed a few runs late in the game. The 40-year-old ace remains 17-4 and lowered his ERA to a ridiculous 1.80. He is basically a shoe-in for both AL Comeback Player of the Year and the AL Cy Young. Verlander is slated to start the final regular season game against the Phillies. But depending on the how the playoff schedule lines up, that could be bypassed to have him Game 1.
